Saskatoon businessman and longtime WCVM supporter L. David Dubé (BA ’84) was among the seven recipients of the University of Saskatchewan’s 2011 Alumni Achievement Awards on October 28.

The Alumni Achievement Awards recognize graduates of the U of S for excellence, leadership and innovation in their achievements and contributions to the social, cultural and economic well-being of society. In turn, their actions and achievements positively reflect on the University of Saskatchewan and the Alumni Association.

Dubé is majority owner, president and CEO of Concorde Group Corp., a diversified Saskatoon-based company. A five-year alumnus of Huskie football, Dubé passionately supports U of S athletics. He created the Huskie Athletics logo — used on clothing and a variety of merchandise — as a student. In 2006, he established the Huskie Football Scholarship Foundation that has built a $1.4-million endowment. He has made major contributions to improve Griffiths Stadium including portions of the new clubhouse expansion. He has also greatly enhanced the game day experience for players and fans.

With his wife, Heather Ryan, Dubé actively supports The Nature Conservancy of Canada, Junior Achievement and other organizations. He and Ryan have also made major contributions to the WCVM, supporting the veterinary college’s equine health and companion animal health research programs.

The Saskatoon horse owners are especially dedicated to improving the health and welfare of all horses through their support of the regional veterinary college. In 2010 the Saskatoon couple made a significant contribution toward the expansion of the college’s existing equine performance centre. Once the expanded facility for horse health opens in early 2012, it will be called the Ryan/Dubé Equine Performance Centre.
